The 2026 C Scow National Championship delivered exactly what competitors hope for in a championship event—strong racing, steady breeze, and excellent race management.
Hosted jointly by Muskegon Yacht Club and Spring Lake Yacht Club on Lake Muskegon, the regatta welcomed 32 boats from across the country for three days of championship racing. Sailors were treated to outstanding conditions on both Friday and Saturday, allowing race officials to complete all six scheduled races before an uncertain forecast arrived on Sunday.
A consistent west-northwest breeze of 10–15 knots filled across the racecourse each day, with gusts frequently reaching the upper teens and occasionally touching 20 knots. Teams that maintained speed through the puffs, played the shifts, and stayed connected to the best pressure found themselves at the front of the fleet.
At the top of the leaderboard, Peter Keck and Ben Porter demonstrated exceptional consistency and boat speed throughout the event. Sailing against one of the strongest fleets of the season, the duo put together a winning performance over six races to claim the 2026 C Scow National Championship.
A key part of that success was their new North Sails I-1 Gold mainsail. Designed to deliver speed and versatility across a wide range of conditions, the I-1 Gold proved to be a powerful weapon in the breeze-on conditions. Keck's ability to capitalize on the WNW breeze, maintain speed through the puffs, and stay connected to the strongest pressure throughout the course helped separate him from the fleet over six hard-fought races.
The event showcased everything that makes C Scow racing special—close competition, close racing, and a fleet of sailors eager to test themselves against the best in the class.
