Pro-Level Maintenance & Upgrades for Your E Scow

Winning starts before you leave the dock. At Melges, we’ve rigged, raced, and refined these boats at the highest level—and we’ve seen firsthand how small details make or break a championship campaign. If you’re serious about results, these are the spring upgrades and replacements you don’t want to skip:

Main Halyard – 3/32" Wire

We replace ours every year—no exceptions. A fresh, waxed halyard ensures smooth hoists, no breaking points, and zero surprises when it’s blowing 18. Trust us, this is one place you don’t cut corners.

Tapered Asymmetrical Spinnaker Sheets

Even the best sheets wear out. Tapered lines deliver quicker gybes and smoother trimming, but once the cover starts to separate from the core, it’s time for a new set.

Harken 30mm Protexit™ Exit Block

New tech that makes a real difference. This block reduces friction, handles side loads, and protects your halyards. Before Protexit™, we recommended changing spinnaker halyards every year. Now—with smoother exits—you’ll get longer life and better performance.

E Scow Main Halyard Phenolic Sheave

Custom sheave for the top of your Melges E Scow mast. If your mainsail is difficult to raise, replace this part.

E Scow Fly Block Main Traveler Car

A true upgrade. This setup features a Harken 22mm high-load traveler car with two 29mm Fly Blocks lashed by the Melges rigging team. It’s standard on new boats—and it’s available now for boats built after 2004. Smoother traveler action = more precise main trim = better speed.

E Scow Hiking Straps

Grip, comfort, and power. Our padded straps are built for hard hiking and fast turns. Watch your jib guy straps in particular —they wear faster than the rest and are often overlooked.
